Today, we celebrate President Jimmy Carter’s 100 birthday, honoring both a national icon and Habitat for Humanity’s most recognizable partner in service.

For decades we’ve watched President Carter and his late wife Rosalynn don their hard hats and roll up their sleeves in partnership with Habitat for Humanity to unlock homeownership. Working alongside nearly 104,000 volunteers in 14 countries, the Carters worked tirelessly to build, renovate, and repair 4,390 Habitat for Humanity homes.

Today, amid a national housing crisis, which has become a central feature of national discourse, the Carters’ passion for empowering families through affordable homeownership serves as an inspiration for our work here in Greater Boston.

When reflecting on his life of service, President Carter recognized that “like other Habitat volunteers … our greatest blessings come when we are able to improve the lives of others.”

Happy birthday, Mr. President!
