This month, President Jimmy Carter turned 100, and this year is the 40th anniversary of the Carter Work Project. In September 1984, Carter and former first lady Rosalynn Carter led a group of Habitat for Humanity volunteers to New York City, building alongside 19 families in need of safe, affordable housing. That was the inaugural Carter Work Project, now a weeklong event that takes place somewhere around the world each year.

With their legacy of service and commitment to Habitat for Humanity in mind, it is with great pleasure that we announce The Carter Society for planned giving at Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston!

Habitat Greater Boston has built more than 120 homes since our founding in 1987. The impact we make in our communities is due to the many who support our work through donations and volunteerism, including those who have included us in their estate plans. In gratitude, and to assist those who wish to do the same, we are launching The Carter Society.

The Carter Society honors those individuals and families who either include Habitat Greater Boston in their estate plans or contribute to the Endowment Fund by creating a named fund. Members of the Society are recognized at and invited to join events and other opportunities annually that demonstrate the impact of the Endowment Fund’s transformational work. Since its founding, Habitat Greater Boston has responded to changing community needs. The Endowment Fund ensures that we will continue to do so in perpetuity.

Housing instability leaves too many families feeling stressed, anxious, and even hopeless. You can help. With a gift that has an impact now or one that creates your legacy, you are taking action to stop the cycle of housing instability and giving families the opportunity to create an affordable, safe place to call home. What will your legacy be?

You are invited to become a Founding Member of The Carter Society. For information about joining, including Habitat Greater Boston in your estate plans, or making an endowment gift, please contact Chief Development Officer Tricia Casey at triciacasey@habitatboston.org or 617-675-6727.
