Habitat Greater Boston is excited to announce that we are currently accepting homeownership program pre-applications for our projects in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and the town of Weston. 

In Dorchester, four of the homes will have two bedrooms, two of the homes will have three bedrooms, and one of the homes will have four bedrooms. One of the homes will be designed to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards. One of the homes will be designed to be a sensory unit for Deaf or Hard of Hearing people.

In Weston, all the homes will have three bedrooms. One of the homes will be designed to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

If you are interested in our Homeownership program and believe you qualify for a home according to the program requirements, we encourage you to fill out the pre-application. All pre-applications and supporting materials must be returned before 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Pre-applications are required to apply for our Homeownership program. Applicants may apply for both projects.

Please read the cover letter included in the pre-application for detailed information about our selection process. We accept pre-applications online, in-person, or by mail.

You will receive a request from us within two business days with step-by-step instructions. Upload all required documentation to this folder. 
You will receive an email confirmation when your documents are successfully submitted.

Steps to Submit Your Pre-application In-person: 

Hard copy pre-applications will ONLY be accepted during the drop off times below: 

Tuesdays: 8am – 6pm

Wednesdays: 9am – 5pm

Thursdays: 9am – 5pm

When you arrive at our office, please select “Homeowner Services” under Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston on the directory by the front door to be let into the building. The Habitat Greater Boston office is located on the second floor.

Completed pre-applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, September 22.

Steps to Submit Your Pre-application by Mail: 

Pre-applications submitted by mail should be addressed to: Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston Attn: Homeowner Services.

Materials must be postmarked by Tuesday, September 22, 2026, and received no more than five business days after the postmark.

Incomplete pre-applications will NOT be accepted.

Next steps:

Your pre-application will be evaluated on the following criteria to determine whether you meet our initial financial and program requirements:
Need: Your current housing is substandard and/or you cannot qualify for a conventional mortgage.
Ability to Pay: You have a reliable income that falls within the required area median income (AMI) range. More specific information on eligible income ranges can be found in the pre-application into packets.
Willingness to Partner: You agree to complete 200 hours of sweat equity and first-time home buying classes.
If you meet all the eligibility criteria based on the pre-application, you will be sent a full application three weeks after pre-applications close, on September 22, 2026. You will be asked to submit more documentation and complete the full application. If you do not meet the eligibility criteria based on the pre-application, you will receive a letter explaining why you do not qualify for our program at this time.
All households who meet the program criteria following our review of the full application will be invited to participate in a meeting with Habitat Greater Boston staff and volunteers from our Homeowner Services Committee.
All qualified applicants will be entered into a lottery and those selected will be offered the opportunity to participate in our Homeownership Program and purchase an affordable home.
