Mark's
Story:
I've been running since 1975, well before the jogging boom.
The running community was small and tight-knit. Runner's
World was our bible, the Boston Marathon was our Super Bowl, and
Bill Rogers was our Joe Montana. I was determined to run
the Boston Marathon when I reached my mid-20s. But with
a series of demanding jobs, attending graduate school at night,
and three kids, running became an occasional outlet, and a marathon
was out of the question. In my late 30s I rediscovered running
and soon realized that training for a marathon would focus me.
I have run three NYC Marathons. In the last one, I dragged
three brothers along for their first-time marathon experience.
They all finished safely, were thrilled by the experience and
are eager to run another marathon. As I recently launched my own
start-up company (FindingDulcinea.com),
I now have more flexibility to fully embrace running and my brothers,
who have new runner zeal, began looking for another race within
hours after crossing the finish in New York in 2007. We
are all now ready and eager to tackle the pantheon of long distance
running the Boston Marathon. I have been an avid supporter
of Habitat for Humanity for more than ten years, and I was thrilled
to learn I could gain entry to this elite race simply by helping
raise funds for a charity I so avidly support.
