Story:
My wife, Toni, and I live in Cambria, California (on the Central
Coast midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco). We are retired
and are active volunteers in a variety of great local volunteer
opportunities including the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse, Cambria
Food Bank, Santa Rosa Church, and our local Habitat for Humanity
program. We are blessed to have four sons (four daughters-in-law)
and three grandchildren. I volunteered in the building of a Habitat
house in our community and I have witnessed the fulfillment of
the Habitat mission and observed the immense joy and pride of
the family that helped build and now live in their house. I feel
very fortunate to have run 16 marathons (I have raised funds for
different organizations with each of my marathon runs), but this
will be my first Boston Marathon. Running has been a major investment
for my health and it gets me out into some of the surrounding
spectacular Cambria sites. This marathon will give me the opportunity
to reach a personal goal, but of more importance it enables me
to raise needed funds for the elimination of poverty housing in
Greater Boston which gives me a much more important incentive
to run the Boston Marathon. I am thrilled, grateful, and honored
to be on the "Habitat Hotfooters" team which demonstrates
an excellent partnership of a special marathon run with a lasting
and very beneficial impact in the lives of many families! I plan
to give my all to my fundraising efforts, training, teamwork,
and crossing the finish. I am a cancer survivor and being on the
Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston team enhances my survival
and provides me a means to give back! I am sincerely thankful
to everyone for their kind support and generosity...everyone can
make a difference.
