Ross's
Story:
When I found out I was chosen to run the Boston Marathon on the
Habitat Hotfooters I felt as if I had won the lottery. Immediately
after finding out the good news I called my parents. They are
the most influential and important people in my life. My father
played basketball in college, so as you can imagine I always played
basketball growing up. I did not begin distance running until
I was in college at Trinity in Hartford Connecticut.
Upon graduation I loaded up a U-Haul and headed to Boston. Living
in Beacon Hill I took a liking to the running path along the Charles
River. After training for two months I ran a half marathon in
Salem. I have continued training and feel extremely lucky to have
the opportunity to run my first marathon in Boston, my new hometown.
I am currently working at MFS Investment Management during the
week and City Sports on the weekend. It is fitting that the Boston
Marathon finish line is only a block away from where I spend most
of my time. Everyday I am reminded on my goal when I look up the
street. Finishing the race under four hours is important to me,
but raising money for Habitat for Humanity takes precedent over
any personal race goals. Walking the streets of Boston everyday
I appreciate and understand the importance of raising funds for
low-income families in order to help them become homeowners. Habitat
for Humanity is especially important now with all of the problems
in the real estate and mortgage markets. Homeownership empowers
families and changes lives. I am honored to run the Boston Marathon
for Habitat for Humanity.
